A casual little place to play mahjong in Bandung
Somehow, seemingly overnight, mahjong exploded in popularity around Indonesia and across the Internet. We succumb easily to FOMO, so naturally we decided to purchase a few small mahjong sets and swap out our rectangular tables for square ones measuring an even 70-75cm on each side. They're small, but sufficient. We also now have five different tile sets we can proudly call our own.
Like everything else we do here, mahjong at HomageMakes is a simple affair. We don't facilitate any gambling or betting — it's purely a strategy game to play with friends, much like Monopoly or Uno. We don't count points, either, because truth be told we have trouble simply keeping track of which direction (North, South, East, West) are printed on the tiles. Maybe one day we'll get skilled enough to use points, hehe.
If you're looking for an almost-free place to play mahjong for hours, please do stop by. Our baristas can help you with the basics or even (if it's not too crowded) join a game or two if you need an extra player.
Why did you start to offer mahjong?
We personally are really enjoying playing the game, and of course our place is intended to facilitate and share the things we love, so yeah.
Are you a mahjong parlor?
Maybe? Perhaps? Think of us like your friend's or family's home where you can do a bunch of cool stuff.
Do you have to pay to play mahjong at HomageMakes?
Not really, no. There's no charge to play mahjong. The usual suggestions apply: it would be great if you could order a drink and/or snack to support our small space.
When can we play mahjong?
We are open every day except for Wednesday, from 8 AM to 9 PM. Our last orders are at 8 PM and we start sweeping and cleaning up at about 8:30 PM, so if you come after that, you'll only be able to enjoy our bottled drinks. We really wholeheartedly recommend you come earlier.
How many people can play?
We have three square tables that are well suited to playing mahjong, so those allow up to 12 people to play. We also have 2-3 more rectangular tables which you can make work if you like.
What size tiles do you have?
We have tiles that measure 2cm (super tiny!), 3cm, and 4cm in height.
Do you have automatic tables?
No, we aren't that fancy.
